SMS “Opt-In” Requirement (START)
Before you can exchange text messages with a customer/client, they must complete an opt-in process. The quickest way (especially for new customers/clients) is to ask them to text START to the same number you will be using to message them.
What you’ll see after you send the first message
After you send an initial message, you will receive an opt-in notice. The customer/client will not see the text of your first message.
What your customer/client will see
Your customer/client will see an opt-in prompt as well.
After they reply with START
Once they reply with START, you will receive a confirmation message. At that point, you will need to resend your original message.
What your customer/client will see after opting in
Your customer/client will then see your message once you resend it.
Tip: To avoid delays, ask new customers/clients to text START to your texting number during your initial conversation so you can message them right away.
